My name is Teina Powell and am a Cook Islander born in the village of Teenui on the Island of Atiu and raised in NZ from the age of 7. I am a single mother of 3 adult children and live in Cannons Creek, Porirua.
I have been involved in the Pacific NGO sector for the last 16 years as the Quality Manager for Pacific Trust Canterbury ending my time with that Trust as the General Manager. Currently the Team Leader for Vaka Tautua – Wellington, and have an extensive knowledge of the Mental Health & Addiction, Disability and Primary Care services while serving with both Trust.
I currently sit as a Board Member for Atareira – Wellington Branch (SF), as well as Vakaola Inc, am also a Pacific Advisor to Porirua Refugee Settlement and to Whitireia – Health Faculty department.
My passion is to serve my pacific community in all that I do and to ensure that pacific perspective is inclusive at all government and service level. With my extensive pacific community and sector networks that this will bring value to the Board of Community Connections Supported Living and those it serves.
