Emerge helps people with disabilities find work in Wellington. We also help those who are already employed but need support in their job.
Our services are free and designed for people who may:
- never have had paid work
- have been out of the workforce for some time
- have had limited access to training opportunities
- require ongoing support to sustain or develop their careers.
Why choose Emerge?
Emerge has been supporting people to find and keep jobs for over 10 years.
Who do we support?
We work with people with a broad range of support needs and disabilities such as physical disability, chronic illness, mental health issues, sensory impairments as well as learning, intellectual or behavioural challenges.
We will support individuals with their career choices:
- career planning and identifying goals
- matching skills and strengths with the tasks or roles in a job
- providing advice on practical issues such as travel and any special equipment you may need in the workplace
- helping local businesses to create jobs that better fit your employment needs
- working with you and your family/whanau, friends and others (such as Work & Income or Health Care Providers) to ensure good communication
- supporting you and your employer throughout your employment relationship.

Our guiding principles:
We follow the principles of the Association for Supported Employment in NZ (ASENZ), which are:
- Open employment: The employment and inclusion of people with disability in the mainstream workforce.
- Wages and benefits: The provision of the same wages and related conditions of employment that are the expected norm in any mainstream workplace.
- Placement first: Direct access to the labour market through a precise job/person match and without prolonged “getting ready” activities or training.
- Inclusiveness: No exclusions or screening from supported employment programmes on the basis of perceived “severity” of disability.
- Individualised and ongoing support: Support services and strategies that are not time limited, are tailored to the individuals needs, and maximise job retention.
- Choices and career development: Services and outcomes based on the preferences and aspirations of the individual and a commitment to ongoing pursuit of careers.
